Nissan 4x4 Club AGM Chairman Report

Chairman’s Report 2011 The year 2011 has had its ups and downs, not only for the economy, but also for individuals and families. Yes we in the club also saw the impact of the economy. The club organized trips and outings, but the attendees did not always attend. We found that long trips and more expensive outings were not as well sought after. The club was involved in various happenings during the year as a club. Members organized trips to Lesotho and Botswana. The Nissan club was present at the AAWDC Family Day and did well although the team did run out of time on some obstacles. What was learned from this is that those who participate need to practice as a team to ensure some teamwork, etc. Knowing one’s vehicle is critical. The Club also organized the AAWDC Charity day, but the support from other clubs was generally poor and the Club decided not to run with this function again, but would, rather support other bodies that will drive this type of outing. It also became clear this was not an item that high on the AAWDC’s activities. The issues that did not take place as planned was the Driver Training issue that the Nissan Club had hoped the AAWDC would sort out, but it does seem that there are some problems with the whole issue of driver training and hopefully in 2012 the Club with a service provider could make some headway with this. With the Consumer Protection Act, the whole issue for Dealers to ensure that the public are trained when purchasing a vehicle. The relationship with Nissan SA did start off slow in 2011, but at the end of the year the relationship had grown into something positive and strong. What the Club found was that the Manufacturer did not see the value of having a 4 x 4 club. The question was constantly asked how many members the club had. Well some of the other clubs have many more members, but so do the manufacturers sell many more vehicles and some manufacturers support and promote their 4 x 4 clubs. What pulled the understanding through was the whole issue of the Patrols 60th anniversary. The Nissan 4 x 4 Club was mandated by owners of the Patrol Forum to organize a function for the Patrol guys, the Nissan 4 x 4 Club immediately started organizing a venue and some activities. Discussions were held with Nissan SA and it was agreed that the Club continue with the arrangements and that Nissan would give full support. This put serious pressure on the Club as it had to perform and ensure that the weekend turned out to be a big success, with not only a very good turnout in Volksrust, but also in the Western Cape. Compliments were received from all over and Nissan was seen in a very positive light with their support and handouts to the participants. A good relationship started. The club also wants to thank the 3 magazines that focus on 4 x 4’s. We thank Leisure Wheels, WegRy and SA 4x4 for their support and articles this year. A further positive thing that did take place was that Nissan SA decided to contract Glyn Demmer as a facilitator to assist not only Nissan SA, but also the Nissan 4 x 4 Club. This is a very big and positive step and already the planning for 2012 has been influenced by having the support, understanding and wisdom that Glyn Demmer brings with him. On Saturday, 19 November, the Club had its AGM and this also was very successful. All in all, the club has grown in strength, not having hundreds of new members but rather building up a strong core of Nissan 4 x 4 Owners and loyal participants. To have to name them would be wrong as if one forgets somebody then more damage will be done, but the guys and girls know who they are. Thanks to all of them. Also, thanks to those 2 -3 Nissan dealers who supported the club, who always have time for us. Personally I have to thank Mark White Nissan for their support, loyalty and down to earth way of dealing with us, sometimes we are out of line, we know, but what a nice relationship. For Glyn and Leisure Wheels who has supported the Club in articles. For WegRy and SA 4 x 4 for articles and pushing the Patrols Anniversary for us. Then last but not least to the following: 1. The Lord for protecting us in that we had no mishaps this year. 2. For our trusted Nissan 4 x 4 for taking pain when we push them hard. 3. To Vaughn for all his work and Vice Chairperson and Events organizer, PRO. 4. To Kobus, our Secretary, who does all the backroom work, sat at LA Sport weekend all on his own. 5. For the guys who have developed the websites, which allow us to communicate with each other. Thanks to you all. May you all have a well-deserved break in December and that you will take a New-Years resolution that you will partake in as many functions that we as the Nissan 4 x 4 club, now also on behalf of the Patrol Forum, arrange. If there is anybody that I have forgotten, my humble apologies, therefore I say thanks to everybody for whatever your contribution was in 2011, be it spectator or participant. Regards NICO PIENAAR

Isibonela Adventures is proud to offer 1 to 2 accredited Level 1 and Level 2 (Unit Standard Driver Competency Certification) courses per month and since starting the offer to the public, it has gone from strength to strength. Full classes and a credible venue, with quality instructors and assessors and great participation, has ensured that the feedback from the learners is excellent. "Quality, combined with professionalism and a superb academic venue and definite passion for the industry, makes us deliver only the best", says Alan Goodway, who is the owner of Isibonela Adventures. Isibonela stands for "LEAD THE WAY " something Alan has been doing since coming to the Gauteng 4x4 scene over 10 years ago. Experience, with credibility, trust and loyalty to his club members and his clients and certainly industry service providers, ensures a good standing in the 4x4 market today. Isibonela Adventures has now successfully trained people with special needs and those with specially adapted vehicles where normal movement is restricted. Recently the first 4x4 instructors from VW 4x4 Driver Training Academy have been trained. So it speaks for itself. Training is available to any person who has a valid drivers licence and who has access to their own 4x4 vehicle and who wants to get the correct and professional training in line with the current industry standards accredited in the SAQA and TETA domain. You will derive value for money and believe me even the old die hards with plenty of previous certificates walk away acknowledging that they have learned a lot. Give us a call for our 2012 schedule
